Senior Director of Event Marketing and Customer Experience

Role: The Senior Director of Event Marketing and Customer Experience is responsible for the overall event marketing strategy and execution of marketing programs that drive audience engagement and retain delegate attendance as well as drive demand for exhibition, sponsorship, and digital advertising for the event portfolio. The incumbent develops and executes marketing plans and attendee experiences with limited supervision and ensures that each touchpoint across the customer journey is engaging, efficient, and effective.

The Senior Director of Event Marketing and Customer Experience ensures marketing best practices and quality control measures are used throughout campaigns and personally develops, executes, and manages select tactical executions including emails, web copy, and print collateral. This position represents the Events & Industry Programs Department and collaborates closely with Marketing on all aspects of event planning, promotion, on-site and post-event experiences. During event campaigns, the (Senior) Director of Event Marketing and Customer Experiences monitors campaign performance, develops optimization recommendations, and creates a final analysis post-event. This role reports to the Chief, Events & Industry Programs Officer.

Responsibilities:

Develop and deliver multi-channel campaigns to increase awareness, engagement and growth for all BIO events including:

  • Marketing strategy and campaign calendar
  • Overall project, timeline, and workflow management
  • Agency and budget management
  • Develop and manage media barter agreements
  • Tactical development of messaging and content for emails, social posts, web copy, landing pages, copy for on-site materials
  • Ensure quality control of all marketing collateral and distribution channels
  • Coordinate with Marketing Department to maximize marketing tech stack to execute all elements of campaign marketing and audience building including lead generation, email marketing, curating distribution lists, search engine optimization, etc.
  • Collaborate with external partners and affiliates to maximize the scope and reach of every campaign.

Drive customer retention, reduce churn, and increase customer satisfaction

Define segmentation of customer/attendee base and varying strategies, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement

Optimize and improve marketing operation workflows to measure effectiveness, performance, and ROI, streamline marketing efforts, acquire new leads, retain existing contacts, increase conversion and attendance rates

Develop and execute integrated programs (email, paid social, SEM, affiliate, etc.) that increase the marketing database, engage relevant audience and increase overall sales pipeline

Create content marketing strategies using relevant, engaging content to attract and nurture prospects and retain audience and test new strategies for driving customer value

Actively collaborate with cross-functional teams to align marketing campaign goals with event objectives

  • Participate in cross-discipline event planning/status meetings
  • Bring forward new ideas and creative solutions to support event objectives such as lead generation for sales, applications to participate (e.g., Call for Sessions), target audience awareness, attendee registration, on-site activations, and post-event engagement.

Thought leadership including

  • Analyze and report on campaign outcomes, drawing insights and presenting results to develop future strategies
  • Presenting information and analysis of competing events
  • Sharing the latest trends in event marketing and how it applies to BIO
  • Finding creative ways to mine and operationalize insights from BIO event attendees and other participants (e.g., speakers, exhibitors)

Perform other duties, as assigned.

Skills & Experience:

• 5+ years in marketing large, multi-faceted events

• Experience with B2B event marketing, biotech, healthcare, pharma, and trade associations

• Omni-channel marketing with emphasis on digital, communications and advertising

• Management and mentorship of personnel

• Collaborative workstyle

• Strong written and verbal presentation skills

• Working knowledge of marketing and sales automation tools including Marketo, Sales Force and other customer engagement tools and channels

• Understanding market research, analytics and data science
